DESIGN CHALLENGE

Baltimore City Health Department in collaboration with John’s Hopkins runs a COVID-19 Vaccine Outreach Program to impart vaccine related information that helps certain focus group through their vaccine decisions. For this purpose, a dedicated team of peer ambassadors do door to door outreach and tabling. Through the pandemic, their team felt exhuasted, demotivated and challenged by the misinformaiton and conspiracies that prevented Baltimoreans from being vaccinated.

DESIGN INTERVENTION

Stories connect like nothing else to us humans, we’re natural born storytellers. I wanted to focus the outreach more from the lens of empathy and storytelling. In order to support the outreach, as a part of the group, I came up with two primary interventions surround storytelling. I conducted three social media outreach workshop training peer ambassadors to carry on their outreach through social media. I also created a digital storytelling toolkit that the ambassadors could continue using to tell their stories.

How might we support vaccine peer ambassadors in engaging Baltimore Communities around COVAX?
