DESIGN CHALLENGE

The Upcycled Holdall is designed and proposed as a CSR Initiative to serve the migrant labor of India who travel to city side to work as construction workers, but lack basic infrastructure to house themselves. As a result, many sleep within the construction with no basic amnetities. This migrant labour force accounts to about 90% of India’s construction workers, and are yet not supported through their work.

PROCESS

The project started as a study into the waste problem in India with the focus of utilising ‘Upcycling’ as a practice. I started with studying one of the largest waste contributors, cement sacks. Through research into the sacks and its stakeholders, I stumbled upon the plight of the migrant workforce, who then became the centre of this project.
