DESIGN CHALLENGE

There is an overall scarcity of health workers in India, with approximately 20 health workers per 10,000 people in India. In a society where social norms curb access to basic healthcare for women, there is a need for measures that help face this taboo in the comfort of their private space, while paying attention to women’s health.

DESIGN INTERVENTION

Chatbot as a technology has enormous potential to provide medical assistance and to support in building awareness and breaking myths and superstitions associated with various therapies. In a 36 hour sprint, I designed a chatbot that would be housed at the local community centre in the village. The women would be trained to use the chatbot.

How might we support women living in rural and non-metro cities in India find information and remedial solutions about women’s health.

Nearly 86% of all the medical visit in India are made by ruralites with majority still travelling more than 100 km to avail health care facility of which 70–80% is born out of pocket landing them in poverty.
